Valentine’s Day in Perth

  • Valentine's Perth
29th Jan 2017

Whether you are a hopeless romantic or believe it to be just another commercial holiday, there is no denying Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and there is already a buzz in the air.

There are many enchanting fables surrounding the origin of Valentine’s Day, now celebrated on 14th February.  Leading the way since the 5th century, Saint Valentine finds himself at the heart of one of the more famous Valentines tales!

Believing unmarried men made better soldiers, the Roman Emperor Claudius banned the marriage of all young men. Imprisoned for defying this law and choosing to marry young couples in secret, Saint Valentine lovingly wrote to his own fair maiden from within the prison walls signing each letter ‘From Your Valentine’.  It is said that the 14th February was later chosen to celebrate such love, as this was the date in which the birds took to the sky to find their own mate, hence the term ‘love birds’.

Whatever the reason, today’s society finds itself embracing the day to celebrate their chosen loved one.
